Steps to Study Abroad
Step 1: Overcome Fears
Don’t be afraid if you don’t know the native language. Several courses don’t ask for foreign language proficiency. Don’t think about costs. There are certain courses that cost lesser than your home tuition.
Step 2: Evaluate your reasons
Think about why to study abroad? Be honest with the reasons. Is it because you seriously want to study in a different atmosphere or because you want to chill at a new destination? Your reasons will help you decide where and what you want to study.
Step 3: Go through your academic plan
Keep your progress, career goals and total course units in mind. Don’t let your graduation get delayed in the process of going abroad to study.
Step 4: Select an appropriate program
There is enough information on the university website. Take a look and decide on the campus program you want to choose. There are several options.
Step 5: Take care of finances
Try and go in for a study abroad program from your school. Chances that you are allowed to work for pay while studying abroad are less.
Step 6: Get all your paperwork in place
Do this as soon as possible. When you apply for programs, be ready with transfer credits, visas and passports.
Step 7: Plan for housing
Are you going to stay in a dorm, an apartment or with a family? Think about this beforehand so that you know how much you are going to spend on stay.
Step 8: Research
Complete your research on the destination you are planning to go to. Do you need anything special to be there? Will you be attending any special events/festivals while you are there?
Step 9: Fly for your dreams
Pack your bags, take everything you need and embark to study abroad.
